A step-by-step guide to track manual steps for clients who don’t use a third-party app on the Total Steps leaderboard.
Check out how to create a leaderboard here.
By default, steps tracked on the Total Steps leaderboard come from connected third-party apps (Apple Health, Google Fit, Fitbit, etc.). If a client does not use an integrated app and prefers to log steps manually, you can still include them in the leaderboard by following these steps:
1. Turn off the automatic Steps metric for the client
Go to the client’s profile → Metrics → Manage Metrics.
Uncheck or disable Steps (automatic) so the system no longer expects synced app data.
2. Create a custom numeric metric named exactly Steps
Create a new custom metric.
Name it exactly Steps (this is important for it to link with the leaderboard).
Enable this custom metric for the client.
3. Client logs steps manually
The client can now log their steps each day in the custom metric you created.
4. Steps appear on the leaderboard
Any steps logged (starting from the leaderboard’s set start date and time) will automatically be counted on the Total Steps leaderboard.
Both clients with synced apps and those tracking manually will be able to compete together.
Important note: If you name the custom metric anything other than Steps, it won’t connect to the leaderboard. If that happens, you’ll need to delete it and recreate the metric with the correct name.
